Events at Oak
Back to School Social
The Sunday before school starts the PTA hosts our annual social event on the blacktop welcoming back returning students and welcoming new ones. We traditionally use our donated funds to pay for refreshments including Kona Ice.
Meet and Greet Events for TK, Kindergarten and First Grade
In the fall before the first day of school the PTA hosts specific events for younger grades to meet their teachers so they can start the year on the right foot.
Stay N Play
Several times a year the PTA hosts an opportunity for parents and caregivers to join their students on Friday after school to socialize, play outside and enjoy activities and refreshments paid for by your PTA donations. It is low key opportunity for Oak families to connect with one another casually.
Coffee with the Principal
Parents and caregivers are invited to get together for coffee and conversation in the morning with Principal Nikita Shah. Coffee and light breakfast is paid for by PTA donations.
Walkathon
The Walkathon brings the entire school together for a fun-filled day of exercise, entertainment, and fundraising. The committee includes both creative and administrative volunteer opportunities. The amount of time required for each position differs. Numerous volunteers are required at all levels, as ongoing planners and/or for a few hours on the day of the event. The Walkathon takes place each year in October.
Spooktacular
Spooktacular is an annual event hosted by our 6th grade families to raise money towards their graduation celebrations. The 6th grade families often organize an elaborate haunted house in the Multi including themed decorations and short skits featuring 6th grade students performing as actors. Outside other 6th grade students host caranival- style games for younger students to have fun and win prizes.
Booktacular
Booktacular is a celebration of reading and the creative world of literature. We usually have a reading contest that lasts for 1-2 weeks and is rewarded by fun prizes and small treats. A school-wide book swap is organized in which gently read books are brought to the classroom, organized in the Multi, and all the students can go home with some amazing fiction or non-fiction of their choice. Books that have not found a new home are donated to a local charity. Booktacular culminates with dressing up as one’s favorite book character. Our youngest readers get to celebrate their newfound love of reading with a Super Reader Parade.
Spring Auction
Our annual Auction social is a fun event that not only strengthens the parent community but also raises substantial funds for Oak School. Event chairs select a theme and plan a party that is fit for the ages. Numerous volunteers are needed to help plan and manage this exciting event which is traditionally held in Spring.
Global Heritage Community Potluck
This event is a great way to explore different cultural backgrounds at Oak through food, games, music and dance. All Oak families are asked to bring a potluck dish to share—this may be a recipe that’s been in your family for generations and represents your country or region of heritage, or it can simply reflect a cuisine you love. Volunteers help with event planning, food coordination, advertising, event set-up, clean-up, and more.
Field Day
This is a school-wide event that celebrates the end of the school year. There are fun relay style and water games, minute-to-win-it games and more! This event requires many volunteers to make it fun and successful for our students. This is a fun event for working parents to help if you can take just one day off from work this school year to help out!
Junior Olympics
This is a track and field event for all Los Altos School District 4th-6th graders. It usually takes place on a Saturday in April. Training for JO begins in March, during scheduled times with the PE teacher and parent volunteers. Relay trainers for each grade and a coordinator in each grade level are also needed. Numerous volunteers are needed on the day of the event to help set up, provide first aid and help with overall logistics.
Oak Literacy Festival/ Annual Book Sale with Mrs Forrest
The Literacy Festival is a fundraising event organized by our librarian that benefits the Oak School library and our children. This event offers products from recognized booksellers at competitive prices. The Literacy Festival typically takes place in spring. Volunteers are needed to help as cashiers, and helpers for setup/tear down. If you love books, this is a great event to volunteer for.
Oak’s Got Talent
Oak's Got Talent is our student talent show, held every 2 years. This is a great event, highlighting the many amazing talents hidden in the Oak community. Volunteers will help with auditions, dress rehearsal, and with ensuring the event runs smoothly.
